Abstract:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a process based therapy supported by research that is found to be helpful for a variety of conditions, including grief, loss, and emotional pain, which are key elements of ones experience after the impact of a natural disaster. In this three webinar series, participants are guided through components of the ACT model. This introductory level webinar focuses on 2 of the 6 psychological change processes of ACT: contact with the present moment (mindfulness) and self-as-context. Research supporting these change principles is discussed. Participants are also led through a serious of experiential exercises to illustrate ways in which clinicians can use mindfulness and self-as-context within the therapeutic relationship. A variety of training tools are utilized, including metaphors, videos, worksheets, and more, which you can use in your work with clients.
Objectives:
- Explain research evidence supporting the use of contact with the present moment (mindfulness) and self-as-context as principles of psychological change.
- Select 2 exercised discussed in the webinar to use in your clinical practice with clients.
