Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a process based therapy supported by research that is found to be helpful for a variety of conditions, including grief, loss, and emotional pain, which are key elements of ones experience after the impact of a natural disaster. In this three webinar series, participants are guided through components of the ACT model. This introductory level webinar series focus on all 6 of the 6 psychological change processes of ACT: defusion, acceptance, self-as-context, contact with the present moment, values, & committed action. Research supporting these change principles and cultural considerations are discussed. Participants are also led through a serious of experiential exercises to illustrate ways in which clinicians can use ACT within the therapeutic relationship. A variety of training tools are utilized, including metaphors, experiential exercises, and worksheets that you can use in your work with clients.

Presenter: Erin Haugen, PhD, LP, CMPC
Dr. Haugen is an author, psychologist, and consultant specializing in clinical & sport psychology. She has a PhD in clinical psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant ® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She is also the Director of Mental Health and Performance Psychology for a DI institution
Dr. Haugen is a nationally sought-after speaker in athletic training and sport psychology. She presents regularly at the annual meetings of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), American Psychological Association (APA), and the invitation-only Big Sky Sport Psychology Conference.
Dr. Haugen works with elite athletes (collegiate, Olympic, professional) from over 20 different sports and specializes in working with athletic departments, student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine professionals, and staff at the collegiate level (NCAA Division I, II, & III; NAIA; NJCAA). She has been responsible for policy and procedure development & revision for a variety of organizations.
Dr. Haugen is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota where she is responsible for providing training to PhD students in psychological assessment and sport psychology. She is a former faculty member (2016-2020) at Altru Family Medicine Residency. She continues to provide mental health and performance psychology training to sports medicine fellows (family medicine & physical therapy), athletic training students, and licensed mental health professionals working with athletes. She is a former member (2017-2019) and past-president (2018-2019) of the North Dakota State Board of Psychologist Examiners (NDSBPE).
