Abstract:
This webinar is for high school coaches who want to learn about signs and symptoms of mental health concerns in high school athletes. We will use the ACT acronym to guide our conversation: Awareness, Connection, and Take the Initiative. We will discuss the difference between mental health and mental illness as well as risk and protective factors for well-being. You will also learn about factors impacting help-seeking in adolescents and how to identify signs and symptoms within three domains. We will also discuss the reason connection is important for well-being and learn several strategies you can use to connect with athletes. Finally, we will discuss how you can take the initiative to have important mental health and well-being conversations with adolescent student-athletes. You will also receive a comprehensive list of resources to connect athletes to appropriate mental health professionals.
